On June 11, 2010 was launched the new hyperbaric chamber at Palamos Hospital. The old one remained active since it was installed in the hospital in 1994. For almost 16 years of continuous operation have treated more than 900 patients and have performed more than 7,000 treatment sessions and staff training.
The new camara has been built in Germany by Haux-LIFE-SUPPORT and has two compartments, a diameter of 2.5 meters and an overall length of 5.8 meters. This allows for a maximum treatment capacity of 8 passengers seated. But can be configured several ways may be two stretcher patients, 1 patient on a stretcher and 4 sitting or seated eight. It also features an innovative air supply system and is equipped with the latest safety mechanisms available. The maximum working pressure is 5 bar.
The Palamos Hyperbaric Medicine Unit Hospital has currently 6 medical professionals, 21 nurses and 4 camera operators. There is permanently a guard team of 3 people (doctor / a, nurse / ay camera operator) to deal with any emergency 24 hours a day every day of the year.
Also, from this unit are conducted medical examinations required in diving and professional sports, and various educational activities.
